Today I was awarded my diploma in Transformational Coaching by Animas Centre for Coaching!
It has taken time, but I finally feel like I am back on track, working towards setting up my own business aimed at supporting people with hearing conditions to move forward positively and achieve their goals.
Following my sudden hearing loss in 2016, my life was turned upside down. Later, due to balance issues, I could no longer work as a teacher – a career that I loved and to which I had devoted all my working life.
In taking time to reflect and write down my experiences, I started to develop a love for writing, something I doubt I would ever have discovered should I not have taken a step back to really look at my life, my interests, and the things that are important to me. I also realised my interest in the human aspect of hearing loss – the emotional impact and the importance of human connection with others living similar experiences. Coaching encapsulates these interests and experiences and builds on the communication and empathy skills gained from 14 years of teaching. And, like teaching, coaching is an incredibly rewarding career.
This is the start of a new chapter in my life. Now, armed with a toolkit of coaching skills and techniques, I aim to help people, just like me, with hearing health issues, make exciting changes in their lives. I’m smiling as I write this – I can’t wait to get started!
You go, Carly! I know you will excel in this endeavor.
